Community: Vail and Edwards
Describe your success story.
Slifer Design’s growth has followed the expansion of Eagle County’s economy in both tourism and local economic diversity. Slifer Designs started in Vail and Beaver Creek, and has expanded throughout Eagle County, across Colorado and beyond.
Why did you choose to do business in the Vail Valley?
Quite simply, I saw a need and provided a service. I started small and grew from there. The past 30 years have seen highs and lows but there is no other place I would want to live and work. Professionals and non-professionals are dedicated, highly educated and motivated to stay in the Vail Valley for the extraordinary life style.
What are the advantages of doing business here?
There are so many. The community’s goal for our tourism economy is to become more year round with summer growing at a faster rate than winter. Working with everyone in the Valley, we cater to both locals and second homeowners.
Being able to really cement relationships within the community is important. We know so many people living in the area, and on the other hand is the constant influx of new, younger professionals who bring fresh ideas with them. It’s really a melding of the two.
What advice would you give to someone entering our mountain economy?
The more year-round your business is, the more desirable it will be to the local labor force. Stick with it. Set attainable goals and network.
