VVP Tourism Outlook – June 2016: Tourism Insights from Vail Valley Partnership

The most recent DestiMetrics reports have been released and we are able to report that summer occupancies across Vail, Beaver Creek, and Avon continue to grow. Occupancies were up significantly in May (+30% valley wide) and bookings made in May for the month of June were approximately 30% higher compared to last year. Looking ahead at the summer season, monthly occupancy growth over summer 2015 continues through October and overall lodging occupancy in aggregate (Vail, Beaver Creek, Avon) are up 20%.

Special events are no doubt helping drive occupancy, primarily on weekends. Sporting events (such as the Colorado Cup soccer event, baseball tournament, World Fly Fishing Championships, and our repeat soccer programs and lacrosse are helping to drive midweek business). Group business through Vail Valley Partnership’s destination sales efforts are pacing well ahead of 2015 as well, with lead generation up 35% and “on the books” room nights generated up 30%.

Be sure to check Vail Valley Partnership’s newsletter and Vail Valley Economic Development’s data center for the most recent 45 day occupancy reports.
