VVP Tourism Outlook – May 2016: Tourism Insights from Vail Valley Partnership

The most recent DestiMetrics reports have been released and we are able to report that the winter season (November-April) wrapped up with a slight increase in lodging occupancy, and with average rates flat to the 2014-15 ski season. Monthly fluctuations in occupancy occurred to to the Easter holiday and a few other anomalies in the calendar and overall winter was “good but not great”.

The good news is that summer lodging occupancy across Vail, Beaver Creek, and Avon (as measured by DestiMetrics) is very strong in both lodging occupancy and average daily rate. Lodging occupancies in aggregate are up 20%, and averages rates are up 7%. Granted, this is early as many summer reservations tend to book within 30 days of arrival, but the increase in bookings as of April 30 shows strength in group travel, destination visitation, and sporting events. We’re fortunate to be hosting a variety of events including the Colorado Cup (soccer) and World Fly Fishing Championships.
