Describe Your success story.
I owe our success to being in the right place at the right time, figuring out how to say yes to opportunity, persistence, perseverance, always looking ahead and around the corner for trends in the Valley and in our industry, and taking appropriate risks. Hiring great people with strong moral character and a good work ethic and training them well, always providing our customers with the highest quality services that we are capable of delivering, and providing housing for many of our employees have all been keys to our success. Our core guiding values include: balance, responsibility, integrity, excellence and results.

Our team is proud to have earned several coveted awards including the 2014 BBB Torch Award for Ethics, Multiple Chamber Business of the Year Awards, The Sam Walton Business Leadership Award, The Spirit of the Valley Award and the ICS Cleaning Specialist Ralph S. Bloss Humanitarian Award.

We are also proud to have been able to raise several hundred thousand dollars for local charities through our annual SteamMaster Charity Golf Tournament.

I have been fortunate to enjoy all of this success in the Valley with the help of my wife, our daughter, employees and loyal customers while maintaining the balance to actively pursue my passions of skiing, snowboarding, kayaking and kite boarding.

The Vail Valley has truly been a remarkable place for our family and business to flourish!

Why did you choose to do business in the Vail Valley?
I moved to the Vail Valley when I was 20 years old in 1977 to ski for one season and obtain in-state tuition for college at CU. After skiing in over 500″ of snow during the 1977-1978 El Niño Ski Season, I decided to abandon my plans for returning to college and started SteamMaster after the ski season to fill a void that wasn’t being met at the time. This has allowed me to pursue my passion of skiing powder when the conditions are right. Our business has grown with the economy in the valley over the years.

What are the advantages of doing business here?
The advantage of doing business here is living in an incredible part of the world with great weather, nature, skiing and economy, in close proximity to a major metropolitan area, where the owners and employees can pursue their passions.

What advice would you give to someone entering our mountain economy?
Advice to new businesses is to be aware of the high cost of living in mountain resort areas and the associated challenges that come along with that, i.e. the high cost of housing. SteamMaster has developed a mixed use headquarters in Minturn only 5 miles from Vail and Beaver Creek that contains our offices, warehouse, garages ,as well as four employee apartments with a total of nine bedrooms. This has helped in our growth as well as our ability to provide immediate emergency services for water damaged homes and businesses in the upper valley.
